On 21st September 2020, the Donard-Glen footballers called to the school with the cup. It was great to see some past pupils and even one Daddy from the team. Well done guys and thanks for your time!
We said goodbye to the sixth class 2019/20. Sadly, given the circumstances, they couldn’t celebrate it with the rest of the school. Thank you to Helen for outsorcing the personalised hoodies and to all of their parents for making it possible for the 4 boys to meet during lockdown. Good luck in secondary school!
Our under-12 chess team and under-8 draughts team represented Westside Community Games in St. Kevin’s Community College in Dunlavin. The droughts team received silver medals, while the chess team received bronze.
The chess game in particular was very close with 2 wins and 3 losses. Well done to everyone involved!!
The Children took part in a lovely Children’s Service where the theme was “The Creation”. They all performed brilliantly.
We had another visit from Mr Zee of Elementary Science. He taught the children in the Junior Room all about magnetism. They had to make magnetic go-carts in pairs and later they raced them to determine the best design and function.
The children in the Senior Room worked on electricity by making circuits with motors and fans. Later, the children designed battery powered fans which blew pieces of paper and straws in races. The children really enjoyed the sessions and became quite competitive.
Last week, the children in the Senior room also worked on their own STEM projects. They designed and made wind pressure toys. We were learning about air pressure and pneumatics. They then went in groups and demonstrated how their toys worked to the Juniors. So… lots of science and engineering in the last few days.
Today was “Pet Day” and some pupils brought their furry, hairy and feathery friends. There was a great selection of pets and farmyard animals. One of the silky hens laid an egg while in the Junior Room!!! And a budgie escaped, for a while, in the Senior Room!
These boys rolled, tied and wrapped grass with silage wrap to make silage for their animals at home. That’s a first!!
