On 21st September 2020, the Donard-Glen footballers called to the school with the cup. It was great to see some past pupils and even one Daddy from the team. Well done guys and thanks for your time!
To promote Engineering Week, we plan to focus on designing and construction over the next few Fridays. Last week all age-groups designed and made a marble run.
They enjoyed working in pairs and seeing the different designs in action.
In Art, the Junior Room made castles and the Senior Room were working with clay.
Everybody is making an effort to speak more Irish as part of Seachtain na nGaeilge.
The Children took part in a lovely Children’s Service where the theme was “The Creation”. They all performed brilliantly.
We had another visit from Mr Zee of Elementary Science. He taught the children in the Junior Room all about magnetism. They had to make magnetic go-carts in pairs and later they raced them to determine the best design and function.
The children in the Senior Room worked on electricity by making circuits with motors and fans. Later, the children designed battery powered fans which blew pieces of paper and straws in races. The children really enjoyed the sessions and became quite competitive.
Last week, the children in the Senior room also worked on their own STEM projects. They designed and made wind pressure toys. We were learning about air pressure and pneumatics. They then went in groups and demonstrated how their toys worked to the Juniors. So… lots of science and engineering in the last few days.
