Today was “Pet Day” and some pupils brought their furry, hairy and feathery friends. There was a great selection of pets and farmyard animals. One of the silky hens laid an egg while in the Junior Room!!! And a budgie escaped, for a while, in the Senior Room!

These boys rolled, tied and wrapped grass with silage wrap to make silage for their animals at home. That’s a first!!

The children enjoyed eating pizza for lunch today today. They chopped veg and fulfilled orders. For desert they enjoyed some buns. Later, as part of the “Pure Mile” initiative, both classes picked litter along the road, in the school grounds and up to the church. It’s been a busy week!!

Donoughmore hosted the children’s Festival 2019, which was a huge success thanks to all the hard work from both current and past pupils, parents and some other members from the community.

Over 400 children enjoyed a church service, lots of food and of course the races. Donoughmore won the girls championship again this year and many, many medals. Blessington no1 won the boys championship and the overall schools’ cup. While Athy Model school won the relay cup.

Thanks again to everyone and well done to our wonderful children.

This morning (16th May 2019), all classes travelled to “Bricks4kids” in Santry and later to “The Zone” soft play/bowling centre in Celbridge.

The children were inspired to create some very interesting pieces from LEGO, work with motors and race their vehicles. They worked well in groups and were all well behaved.. Many thanks to Sandra, Neville and Gemma who accompanied us today.

All pupils and some preschool age children enjoyed our annual Christmas party. Each child received a selection box and a present from Santa and played lots of traditional games.
On the Wednesday night of Christmas week, the children performed in a Carol service and presented the congregation with bags of cookies which they had baked and decorated in school. We also raised €85 for the Laura Lynn hospice for children by wearing our Christmas jumpers to school.

All pupils came to school dressed in their Halloween costumes. They enjoyed a party later in the day where they played various Halloween games. Our rector, Ven. N. O’Raw picked his favourite costumes from each classroom and awarded them with a little treat.

We harvested some potatoes, leeks, onions, cucumbers and courgettes. The children also worked hard to tidy up the raised beds after the summer growth and we then made a tasty potato and leek soup.
