We started our gardening segment this week by examining seeds. We then put beans in jars and will wait for them to germinate. Ms. Edwards made some lovely seed heads (grass seeds) with us and we look forward to snipping their ‘hair’ when they grow.
On Monday 18th April Ms. Case came in and helped us to sow cucumber, lettuce, sweetcorn and strawberries. The seeds are in our classroom and we plan to plant them out in May. The Case family also kindly donated some mature plants.
On Wednesday 9th March 2016, 6 seniors went to Lamberton in Arklow.
We came 2nd, only beaten in the final.
Mr. Desmond Burke visited the school as part of the Heritage in Schools Programme dressed as a Viking silver smith and monier. His visit was really interactive. We even dress one of our pupils as a viking (the armour was very heavy). We learned how they lived their daily lives and we each received a silver coin as a memento.
The children enjoyed their drama (in-house) performances of ‘North Pole’s Got Talent’ and ‘The Ugly Step Sisters’ by the Senior Room. While the Junior Room enchanted us with their action poem ‘Christmas is coming’.
On Tuesday 15th March we raised the Irish flag at our school. One of our parents Corporal Michael Byrne and Rev. O’Raw helped us raise the flag in a lovely ceremony. We prepared for this event by learning how to march and salute correctly. The seniors also learned the song ‘Ireland’s Call’ which we sang at the end.
