Our school is a two teacher school nestled in the beautiful countryside of the Glen of Imaal, founded in 1883. Our current school building was built in 1966, extended in 1995 and again in 2007.

Donoughmore is a school under the patronage of the Archbishop of Dublin, the most Reverend Dr. Michael Jackson. Our school promotes the ethos of the Church of Ireland but also welcomes children of other faiths and none. We strive to provide a happy, safe learning environment for the children.

Mr. Zee visited the school and worked with all the children. They worked in small groups to design, make and test roller-coasters. As the sessions progressed Mr. Zee introduced different problems for them to solve. All the children thoroughly enjoyed this type of engineering and learned lots about kinetic energy.

Fresh vegetable soup!!! At the end of September the children dug up some potatoes, pulled up some spring onions and made use of the courgettes by making vegetable soup. We enjoyed this lovely, hot soup served with crusty, buttered rolls before big break.

In the middle of October we harvested more potatoes and also carrots and turnips and we cleared the garden ready for winter.

A lovely day was had by all on a sunny Sunday in May at our Annual Duck Race. The children designed little boats that were then sailed down the river. There was a competition for best designed boat. The  ducks were released and Calum Hankin’s duck  won the race. The children enjoyed the Hook-a-Duck, duck Egg-and-Spoon races, hot-dogs and ice-creams. Thanks to all involved for your hard work.

On the 24th of May Ms. Manley and 3 of the 6th class children travelled to DCU to collect the green flag. We enjoyed a delicious lunch and we were presented with our green flag for ‘Litter and Waste’. Our school grounds are looking wonderful thanks to the work of the Green School committee. Well done!

The children have really enjoyed Drama classes throughout the year. On Friday 24th March’17 the Junior room performed in “The Three Billy Goat’s Gruff and the Senior room performed in “Tech Rehab”. The Seniors’ play was about some teens who go on a weekend away without WiFi or any coverage.
